about gifts is a community set in boulder, colorado and is based around the lives of evolved human beings, aka people with abilities and powers! we do allow normal humans in the community, though we prefer they be connected closely with someone that has an ability (sibling, cousin, spouse, etc). we are a writing and character development heavy community and will have lots of plots thrown into the mix, but there will also be normal city-based community activities as well. most people with abilities are trying to blend into normal society, and those that aren't may come face-to-face with unwanted trouble. thus, most characters will have 9-5 jobs like in regular communitiesall kinds of character types are welcome here! we encourage diversity and thinking outside the box. history gifted individuals have always been around, but only in recent decades has their existence started to gather attention. whether or not this attention is wanted is another story altogether. over the last ten years, boulder has become a central hub for all kinds of extraordinary people with abilities. why boulder? its remote location, away from the watchful eyes of the government and their efforts to locate, brand, and potentially experiment on (or worse) any superhuman beings. their existence not common knowledge in the larger world, and many want to keep it that way. others feel no shame and are tired of hiding in the shadows. powers we allow most superpowers and abilities and accept characters that are mutated, evolved, or have been scientifically experimented on. however, we do not allow any abilities that make your character invincible or give them complete control over another human being (i.e. mind control, immortality). if you’re unsure about whether or not a certain power would be accepted, please ask us! every power in-game will be listed publicly on our taken list, and we strongly encourage variety and creativity in choosing one when joining. you are, of course, free to pick whatever power you like. please note each character is allowed only one ability, unless there is strong overlap with two abilities. again, feel free to ask us if you have any questions concerning this. your character can be anything from a burgeoning superhero to an average joe to a downright villain—that is up to you. do keep in mind that, per the plot of the community, their choices will also have real-life consequences. using their powers in public will put them at risk. lastly, please keep in mind that while all of the characters here have powers, not every character will know every other character's power. everyone within the network in boulder knows that their peers are gifted, but whether or not an individual wants to share their specific ability publicly or keep it to themselves is up to them.

joining to join gifts, we require you have an in character journal that contains both an in character post and an out of character contact post. please make sure that you've backdated these posts. if you're not sure what that means feel free to ask us. we also require a set of your writing examples to join. we are looking for narratives or threads, not entry type updates. please make sure you provide at least one thread with more than one reply by you, and remember to drop off your examples in the mod contact post. activity after being accepted, you must post an intro within 72 hours or you'll be removed with the next set of adds/removals. gifts has a monthly update cycle. each cycle starts on the first day of each month and ends on the last. to meet our activity requirements, you must post one update a month and one comments enabled post a month on the fp. your comments enabled post can be in your journal or in extraordinary. please don't comment and run! make an effort to reply to comments when you can and don't leave anyone hanging. as for updates, we're pretty lax here. updates can be in the form of a narrative, photoshop creations, hover narrative, blog-style updates, etc. we do not currently have a word count on written updates and ask that you use your best judgement when updating. last but not least, we ask that you keep your friends lists updated. please don't go more than a few sets of adds out of date. after a week and a half, we'll remove anyone with grossly out of date lists. plots because we are a writing and development-centric community, we will be coming up with community-wide plots relating to the gifted world and the many potential situations they may find themselves in. participation in these plots is by no means mandatory but is strongly encouraged! some plots may be larger and more widespread while others may just be prompts that members can select to have their characters encounter. if you have any ideas or suggestions for plots, we would love to hear them. etc the most important rule at gifts is that you're friendly and welcoming toward all new and old members alike. we shouldn't have to ask for everyone to be respectful but we are anyway. please do not cross any ic/ooc lines or godmod any aspect regarding other characters. please clear any serious uses of your character's powers against or on any other character with them first. otherwise, please take everything in stride and remember, this is all in character and it's all for fun!
